Meet the Team
When not handling grown up responsibilities, our team can be found reading, buying too many houseplants, watching anime, and occasionally being drafted into Saruman's Army.
Kara Cumberland
Developmental and Line Editor
I have always been in love with stories. They have been an essential aspect of my life. I grew up listening to my mother reading to me and my siblings before bed, and I fell deeply in love with the way that a story could transport you to a different world.
As I grew older, I spent countless hours devouring books from many different genres and analyzing the aspects that made for the best stories. Tolkien taught me the importance of solid world-building through the complexities of Middle Earth, Agatha Christie taught me the importance of the easily overlooked character who often played a pivotal role, and Orson Scott Card taught me the importance of the unexpected plot twist.
My experience in literary explorations and analyses have prepared me for the role of story editor by honing my skills in identifying plot holes, character inconsistencies, and world building anomalies. While my passions might lie in the worlds of fantasy and science fiction, I have delved into many other genres including romance, historical fiction, slice of life, and even non-fiction books.
Most recently, I have had the privilege to work alongside award-winning author Susan L. Markloff on her epic fantasy series “The Human-Born Era.”

My goal as a story editor is to help you shape and transform your manuscript into the most compelling version of your story, so your readers are able to enjoy the nuances of your world, resonate with your characters, and be devastated to discover they've read the last page.
Linus
CEO of Mischief and Agent of Chaos
This is Linus. Part Cat, part Goblin, his chief responsibilities are getting into as much mischief as possible, constantly invading my personal space, and being just cute enough to get away with it.

He takes his job as co-editor very seriously, and can often be found climbing over my keyboard or inspecting my screen to confirm that I am doing a good job.

Lady
CEO of Mischief Management and Naptime
This is Lady, affectionately called "Crazy Lady". Her chief responsibilities are reminding Linus who's really in charge, ruthlessly dispatching any insect she sees, and sleeping in the most ridiculous positions possible.

She recognizes that the most important role for a co-editor is to sleep enough for both of us, and she can be found napping approximately 20 hours a day. During the other four hours, she can be found keeping Linus in line with disapproving looks, or a well earned butt-kicking.
